Halloween Candy
Best and worst Halloween candy for your teeth
Basically, its comes down to a few simple things:
- The less sugar, the better… The microflora that cause cavities feed off of sugars, so limiting their access to sugar is always good.
- Try to avoid super sticky candies as they tend to stay on teeth longer, and yup, you guessed it… they tend to have a higher sugar content.
- Sour candies can be acidic and weaken tooth structure making them more susceptible to decay
- Avoid biting on really hard candies as they can be hard enough to chip your teeth! As always, it is important to follow the recommended hygiene schedule of brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day.
Pro tip: swishing with water after eating/drinking in order to reduce the amount of sugars, acids, pigments that can stain teeth.
